The Indiana School Counselor Association wants to acknowledge the uncertainty many school communities are navigating and to remind you that you are not alone in this.
We know firsthand the deep trust you build with your students, and the uncertainty many students are carrying right now. Not knowing what comes next, or how best to support them, can be overwhelming. It’s okay not to have all the answers. What matters most is continuing to show up, listen and remind students they are cared for and supported.
We also want to name the weight this moment carries for educators and school counselors themselves. Supporting students through uncertainty while holding your own questions and concerns is not easy, and we see the care, strength and commitment you bring every day, even when it feels hard.
Our hearts are with our colleagues in Minneapolis, Chicago, California, Maine and communities across the country who are carrying so much right now, yet continue showing up with steadiness and care so their students can learn, grow and thrive.
Our work continues to be guided by the ASCA Ethical Standards, which call us to protect student dignity and create school environments where each and every student feels safe, supported and able to learn — especially during challenging times.
Included are; the ASCA Statement on Escalating ICE Enforcement, ASCA toolkits, and Indiana-specific guidance to support you, your students and your school communities. If you need resources, support or simply someone to talk with, we encourage you to reach out to us directly, we are here for you.
Please take care of yourselves and one another.
Warmly,
INSCA Board of Directors
