ELECTIONS

The Indiana School Counselor Association is seeking school counselor leaders to run for our Board of Directors.  The INSCA Board of Directors serves as the governing body and trusted representative of the Indiana School Counselor Association (INSCA), a nonprofit professional organization dedicated to advancing the field of school counseling and enhancing the impact of its members. The board ensures INSCA remains a valuable resource for school counselors, stakeholders, and the broader education community. Read more about INSCA's Mission and Vision.

    2026 Election - Available Seats

INSCA follows a regular election cycle to ensure continuity and fresh perspectives on the Board of Directors. This year, there will be three open positions, each serving a full three-year term. Board members in these roles may choose to run for one additional three-year term at the end of their first term.

In addition to these seats, we also have one position with a remaining 1.5-year term that needs to be filled.

This opportunity is open to all INSCA members. However, eligibility for future terms depends on prior board service:

      • Former INSCA board members who are elected would serve only the remaining 1.5-year term for that seat.
      • Members who have not previously served on the board and are elected to this seat would be eligible to run for up to two additional three-year terms once the 1.5-year term concludes.
    Eligibility Requirements for Candidates

To be eligible to run for a position on the INSCA Board of Directors, candidates must meet the following criteria:

      • Licensure Requirement: Candidates must hold a valid Indiana School Counseling License at the time of nomination and throughout their term.
      • Membership Status: Candidates must be an active, dues-paying member of INSCA for at least one year prior to the nomination deadline.
      • Employment Restrictions: Candidates may not be current employees of the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) in any capacity.
      • Professional Standing: Candidates must be in good professional standing, demonstrating ethical practice and adherence to the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors.
    Board Member Responsibilities

The INSCA Board of Directors is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the organization, ensuring alignment with its mission, and representing the interests of its members. Board members are expected to:

      • Be well-informed about INSCA’s mission, guiding principles, and ongoing initiatives.
      • Oversee governance functions, including adherence to INSCA Bylaws, policy development, and compliance monitoring.
      • Engage with INSCA members, fostering connections and representing their needs.
      • Actively participate in decision-making and strategic planning to advance the profession of school counseling.
    Time Commitment and Required Meetings

Board members are expected to actively participate in INSCA governance and decision-making through regular meetings. The board meets once per month, with most meetings held virtually. However, members are required to attend two in-person meetings each year:

      • Summer In-Person Meeting – Held the day before the Leadership Development Institute (LDI)
      • Pre-Conference In-Person Meeting – Held prior to the Annual INSCA Conference
